Why stay in Schoorl if you're visiting Bergen aan Zee?

Bergen aan Zee is a beautiful, but tiny coastal village: one access road, a handful of streets and then straight into the sea. Wonderfully cosy, but on a summer's day it also fills up fast. If the car park by the beach is full, the Zeeweg closes to cars and you'll have to park in the village of Bergen instead and catch the bus to the beach.

From EuroParcs Koningshof, you skip that parking stress altogether. You're close enough to easily beat the crowds first thing in the morning, or you can grab a bike and cycle past the traffic via car-free dune paths. Koningshof also borders directly onto the Schoorlse Duinen, the widest dune area in the Netherlands: step off your terrace and you're straight into nature. And after a day at the beach? You'll find that wonderful stillness waiting for you back at the park. Now that's truly unwinding!

How do you get from EuroParcs Koningshof to Bergen aan Zee?

The lovely beach at Bergen aan Zee is around 7.5 kilometres from our park in Schoorl. The car is the fastest option, but the cycling route there is just as scenic. You could also turn it into a proper hike, or simply hop on the bus. Below are the best ways to travel to the beach:

 

    By car

    Via the Zeeweg you'll be there in just 15 min. Parking costs around €15 per day. Tip: set off early! Once the car parks are full, the access road closes.

 
 
    By public transport

    Local bus 410 gets you to the beach in 25 minutes, Monday to Saturday. In summer, a free coastal bus runs daily (11:00 AM - 7:30 PM).

 
    On foot

    A proper hike (8 km, approx. 2.5 hours) through dunes and soft sand. Please note: a dune permit is required for anyone aged 18 and over. You can catch the bus back.

EuroParcs Koningshof is an intimate, small-scale park. To let you enjoy the peace and quiet of nature, you won't find a busy swimming pool or a loud entertainment team here — that's a deliberate choice. What we do offer is everything you need for a carefree holiday. Hire a bike or e-bike at reception, order fresh bread rolls for breakfast, or have a complete barbecue or "gourmetten" grill package delivered straight to your holiday home. For the kids, there's also a cheerful playground and a table tennis table.

Our tips for Bergen aan Zee

Did you know that Bergen aan Zee isn't an old fishing village, but was purpose-built as a seaside resort as recently as 1906? Architect Berlage designed a cosy village with plenty of greenery and a central church. You can still feel that unique, idyllic character today. Below, we share the best things to do in Bergen aan Zee.

 

  • The beach: Bergen aan Zee proudly flies the Blue Flag for clean and safe swimming water. Choose from eight cheerful beach pavilions, or head north of the beach entrance for extra peace and quiet.
  • Zee Aquarium: A perfect outing, especially when the weather turns. Here you'll spot over 300 fish species, walk beneath an impressive whale skeleton, and gently stroke the rays in the ray reef.
  • Parnassiapark: The very first heritage garden in the Netherlands, laid out in a dune valley in 1911. Wander along winding paths past marsh gentians and ponds.
  • Vredeskerkje: A charming, historic church tucked among the dunes, which often opens its doors to visitors during the summer months. Well worth a quick look inside!
 
  • Watersports: Head to Surfschool Bergen aan Zee for wave surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, kitesurfing, or banana boat rides.
  • With your dog: In summer (1 May - 1 Oct), your dog is always welcome on a lead at the activity beaches. On the other beaches, that's only possible before 10:00 AM and after 7:00 PM, and during those hours they can even run free. Outside the season, they can roam freely everywhere.
  • On your way back, be sure to stop off in the artists' village of Bergen, just two kilometres from our park. Here you'll find Museum Kranenburgh, the historic Ruïnekerk, trendy boutiques and lovely terraces.
  • Visiting in October? Then it's time for the Kunst10daagse: ten days during which hundreds of artists display their work across both Bergen aan Zee and the village of Bergen.
